another two dayer...
.
friday, april 18th
the weather has been nice, but none like friday had shone yet this year. sarah called me at work around 11:45 saying that she felt it a crime for her and the girls to be out enjoying the weather while i was stuck inside trying not to get paler by the minute. i too saw this as a sin. she asked when i was coming home and that i should get there as soon as possible. after hanging up the phone, i made a beeline for the boss. she was at lunch, so i worked a bit longer and headed outside to have a bite myself. while enjoying my carrots under a sunny sky with a nice breeze, boss lady waltzed by on her way back from lunch, stopping briefly to chat. during the discussion, i brought up my wife's phone call, and she said i could leave whenever. so i was headed for home by 1:30!!!
.
we left for mom and dad's with the goal of finishing the picking up of a large tree that had fallen in late summer/fall of last year. i got a nice blister on my left hand from chopping wood, but dad and i got everything cleaned up (yes, he too took the afternoon off). then we had hotdogs at my parents' and headed home for a late night for all. after putting the girls to bed, sarah i spent some quiet time alone watching netflix until after pm.
.
so sarah and the girls were in the sun from around 10:30 until it hid itself that night, creating two little lobsters who were ready for bed before their heads hit their little pillows.
.
little alex's prayer was cute before bedtime this night. it went something like, "dear jesus, thank you for this food... and miss nisha, and mr. seth, and indiana, and boaz... amen." (seth and nisha are our close friends. the other two are their dogs)
.
saturday, april 19th
despite the late bed time last night, alex made her way down to our room around her usual 6:30, with sonja following not too long after. you could tell they were tired, as sonja stared over her bowl of oatmeal for quite some time, taking a bite only on command from mommy and/or daddy. but it was all-in-all a good morning, though we didn't get to go watch sarah play soccer.
.
dad showed up around 10:30 to head out with the four of us on a disc golf venture. he's never played before, but i get the feeling it won't be the last time either. i gave up keeping my score at about hole 7. it wasn't a good day for disc golf as i lost a disc in the drink on top of the high score. but it's great to get out, and disc golf is never disappointing even in these times. we'll still hope next week goes better!
.
still tired, it was time for a nap after a quick jelly sandwich when we got home. i 'quickly' called matthew while sarah put the girls down to see if he could track down a $5 replacement disc for the one i had just lost. by the time i was done talking, i thought all had fallen asleep, so i went outside to catch up on some bible reading so as not to disturb any afternoon slumbering. i was briefly interrupted not 2.5 chapters into the text by a quick flash of sarah bolting out the door, scowling, then back in. i ran in to see what was the matter, and felt bad that she was, in fact, battling a headache and dealing with the girls thumping across the floor upstairs rather than sleeping. so had i just stayed inside, things would have been better... sigh.
.
herb and elaine stopped by during the nap but after the above ordeal to drop off an extra hose and spreader for our lawn. herb had called twice on his way over, so i felt bad for not answering the phone when i saw who was ringing my door bell. as we stood in the driveway and talked briefly, herb took note that we had a lot to do to our yard. immediately, proverbs on sluggards entered my brain, and i kicked into productive mode. so once everyone was up, we all went outside and got some stuff done before the rain hit.
.
favorite bible verse read today: "for to us a child is born, to us a son is given... and he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty god, everlasting father, prince of peace." (isaiah 9:6)
.
another bible verse read today which i thought was somewhat funny as i didn't understand it: "so then, the word of the lord to them will become: do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule on rule, a little here, a little there - so that they will go and fall backward, be injured and snared and captured." (isaiah 28:13)
