church was cancelled today, so i spent a large majority of the day catching up on some bible reading. WCRF (wcrf.mbn.org) is leading a 90-day bible reading track, and sarah and i are 9 days into it. i say 'catching up' because i skipped day 8. being snowed in today was perfect timing since we're hitting leviticus right now, which can make for a tough read.
i know i've only been a parent for two months now. and i know my journey through the bible in 90 days just started a week ago yesterday. but god has taught me a lot through the relationship of these two things lately, affirming my parenting through how he parents me. ultimately, i'm not perfect, but he asks me to be (matt. 5:48). i parent the same way. and we have this list of dos and don'ts for our children, just like god had for the israelites and for us to this day. as i bow and thank god for his disciplining love, i pray also that my children will look to me with the same thankfulness one day.
besides reading god's word and shoveling around 10,000 cubits of snow, the only other thing i've done today is lose my patience. that's one thing i haven't learned from god. i can't say i'm proud of the way i've acted today. i can say i'm even more disappointed with my negative thoughts today. however, i am proud, and will boast all the more of god's forgiveness for these sins and many more. thank you jesus!
so based on my bad attitude today, i did the best thing for the girls that i could think of: kept a distance. to deny satan's power over me would be to downplay my enemy. that said, he kept a firm grip on me today that left it safer to hide and self-destruct than pour that out on little ones whom god loves. please pray i'm a better father and husband tomorrow... i'm still imperfect.
favorite bible verse read today: 'consecrate yourselves and be holy, because i am the lord your god. keep my decrees and follow them. i am the lord, who makes you holy." (leviticus 20:7-8)
